Momo At The Souks – Downtown

Fine Mix between French and Moroccan Cuisines

Momo at the Souks has an excellent location in the heart of Beirut Souks. The restaurant is at the first floor with an entrance directly from the Jewelery souk. The decor is amazing mixing morrocan and modern styles. During summer, you can enjoy its terrace filled with green overlooking the souks. The table settings, the atmosphere and the decor are faultless.

A fusion menu mixing Morrocan and French will be waiting for you at Momo. The menu is almost divided between French and Morrocan dishes. In addition to the traditional musts in both cuisines, you can find some innovative dishes. Prices are high following the stading of the restaurant.

We opted for Morrocan during our visit. We ordered chakchouka, harira, mushroom couscous and meat couscous. The food was perfectly presented and portions were generous. The food was Ok, but being a lover of Morrocon cuisine, I was disappointed by the dishes. I found the taste not strong enough, lacking spices and flavours. One weird detail is that the mushroom couscous came without any mushroom in it.

The service was attentive and courteous although I didn’t like that the waiter asked us if we prefer still or sparkling water instead of asking first if we want water at all, knowing that their water is relatively expensive.

Overall, Momo at the Souks offers a nice and classy setting that you can enjoy if you don’t mind the high bill and you’re not fanatic about Morrocan cuisine.

Momo At The Souks was the talk of the town these last months and I was really excited to discover it.
I went yesterday to try the iftar menu... It was a wednesday and the restaurant was full.
All what I can say is wow... I was impressed by everything in the restaurant: the decor (a mix between modern and traditional styles), the food (delicious moroccan dishes such as lamb tajine and couscous) and the service (very professional).
    Not to be missed.

While passing by in Beirut souks, we decided to try the restaurant. We went in, asked if there were a table, the girl at the reception said that there are only tables on the terrace that is heated (it was during March). We were tempted by trying the place, so we agreed.
During the evening, a couple sat in the terrace waiting for their unreserved table inside. The waiter tried to convince them that the table inside was not good, they refused to stay outside, so the waiter agreed to take them in. And during all the evening, half of the tables inside were empty.
It's a shame from the restaurant to try to fill the terrace before the inside through lying to their clients. As the evening went by, it felt more and more cold and we were really disgusted by the restaurant's policy.

I went to Momo's on various occasions. What I like about this restaurant is mainly the variety of both French cuisine and Moroccan specialities. You can either go for a french dinner or combined both.
The service is a must with good explanations from the waiters and Maitre d'Hotel.
I also tried their Special Iftar Menu.
The selection of dishes is very large, portions are very generous and what i liked the most was the variety of choice of main courses.
There was plenty of food on the table to enjoy a long Iftar. I would recommend this restaurant to spend both quiet and lively evening (Bar next door with very good cocktails and music).
