Sud is hosted at the “Cour Saint Michel”, an open court shared by three restaurants. The setting of the court is awesome with warm colored walls, stones, trees, separated terraces and curved stairs leading to restaurants on different levels.

Sud is the second establishment as you enter the court, the restaurant is on the ground floor and terrace and the bar is on the rooftop. Sud’s concept is to bring to his customers cuisines from Southern Europe mainly Spain, France and Italy.

The place was litterally full on a Saturday evening. We sat inside where the décor is modern and pleasant. We were freezing althrough our July dinner as the air conditionnning was not set well. Another issue that harms the ambiance is the loud noise inside.

Sud’s menu is rich with prices going from medium to high. Many items are original and creative, I loved the presence of quiche and vegetables tart on the menu.

We ordered tapas, entrecôte, beef filet, beef tartare and  gambas. The champignons confits tapas was too marinated in balsamic vinegar that took over all the taste. The tartare was delicious although when presented a bloody sauce was coming out of the tartare, which wasn’t very inviting. Both my friends who ordered entrecôte were disappointed by the quality, quantity and cooking of the steaks. After complaining to the waiter, the manager and owner came to apologize and explain that the difference with the regular entrecôte is due to the Australian origin of the meat. He suggested to switch to the beef filet which came in perfect cooking and taste. The gambas however smelled and tasted frozen and the spinach side order lacked taste.

The place was too busy as we were there on a Saturday evening. The service was fast, always smiling but needs more attention to details. I would have appreciated if my main course was served with the starters of my friends as I didn’t order any. At least, the waiter could ask if I want to be served earlier, especially that my main course was a cold tartare.

The warmness of the court and the variety of owners and spirits distinguish Cour Saint Michel from other alleyways. Sud definitely benefits from this setting and from the original concept of its menu. With some improvements in the cuisine and the service, Sud may become one of the best restaurants in town.

We went twice. I liked the service and the food the first time. This time we came back with a large group. For the bill we got, I thought they could have been nicer. The owner was nice but the manager told us we changed all his concept with the hats we had and wanting to project something in the corner of the restaurant.... One last thing, I love the concept of these restaurants but why the noise!!!! Lebanese restaurants have to think of using noise isolators when they build their restaurants. It becomes unbearable when it's busy and you stay long.
